Every Thursday on Moneyball you can create a team for the NBA Thursday Monster – Australia’s largest weekly Daily Fantasy Sports contest with $6,000 in prizes! Want to win some of that sweet prize pool? Moneyball Basic NBA Tournament Strategy is a great place to start.
You’ve got to love the Thursday Monster! Entrants are rewarded for being a little contrarian, and it paid off for bigbuckhunter who won $1,350 with his score of 354.4!
Bigbuckhunter selected all four of the top-scoring players for the day – Klay Thompson, Russell Westbrook, Andre Drummond and Kevin Love. Surprisingly, the ownership levels for all of these players were relatively small with three of them coming in at under 11.5%.
Klay Thompson had a monster day against the Mavericks with 45 points and 5 rebounds. He shot 70% from the field and landed seven three-pointers. At only 8.6% owned, he was the deciding factor in many of the successful entries last Thursday.
Russell Westbrook had yet another of his usual performances, narrowly missing out on a triple-double with 24 points, 15 assists and 8 rebounds. Both Westbrook and Kevin Durant (46.3) played exceptionally well against the Timberwolves.
Andre Drummond beat up on the lowly Philadelphia 76ers as many would have seen coming. The only concern with Drummond before the Thursday Monster was how many minutes he would get against the 76ers and he ended up seeing 35 minutes of game time in an 110-97 win.
Lastly, Kevin Love has been excellent since the Cavaliers fired David Blatt. Coach Tyronn Lue has been finding ways to get Love more involved offensively, and it seems to be working wonders for Love’s fantasy production.
Danny Green ($3,600) – 37.7 points – 10.4x value
There are few certainties in life, but Danny Green torching the Houston Rockets is almost considered a guarantee. Green’s best two fantasy games this season have been against the Rockets – 37.7 (Jan 28), and 34.3 (Jan 3). Be sure to consider Danny Green when the Spurs face the Rockets again on February 28.
Zach LaVine ($4,100) – 40.9 points – 9.9x value
Zach LaVine exploded on Thursday for 40.9 fantasy points on 14/17 shooting for 35 points. LaVine was 5/8 from deep and has finally found his shooting touch again. Zach LaVine was featured in more detail in the latest Running Wild piece.
Jerami Grant ($4,100) – 39.6 points – 9.6x value
Jerami Grant has been sneaky good all season long with four scores of 34.7 or more. Grant scored a career-high 21 points against the Pistons last Thursday along with 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. It was a great performance from the 21-year-old forward who has worked his way into consideration for Moneyball tournaments.
