This Monday sees a cat amongst the chickens, when the Panthers try to ruffle the Roosters feathers. Both clubs are in need of a win after difficult starts this season.

The Chooks snapped a five game losing streak with their win over cross-town rivals the Rabbitohs last week. It wasn’t razzle-dazzle football that got them over the line last week, instead hard, robust defence won the day. An inability to score points must have the boys from Bondi counting down the days til key attacking weapon Mitchell Pearce is back from suspension.

NRL Roosters vs Panthers

Best Buys

Dylan Napa ($7,100)

Napa was a one-man demolition crew last week, taking it on himself to try and bash the rabbits into next week. Napa admitted he had his target set squarely on the chest of Rabbitohs hard man Sam Burgess and he certainly found his mark, laying two big shots on. Napa finished the game with a try, 19 hit ups for 151 metres as well as 40 tackles – and almost every one of them left a dent in his opposition.

Jake Friend ($7,800)

The Captain Chook is an absolute workhorse and an inspirational leader. Friend is already talked about as the successor to Cameron Smith and his impressive stats tell you why. Friend is leading the comp averaging 42 tackles  per game plus he has 3 try assists and 20 one-on-one tackles.

Bryce Cartwright ($8,000)

The young backrower has been the standout forward in the game so far this year and his form have people demanding he be in blue come Origin time. The nephew of former Panther John Cartwright, Bryce is quick and powerful player who always seems to be at the right place at the right time. Cartwright has tallied up three tries, 14 offloads, 15 tackle busts and 23 average tackles.

Trent Merrin ($8,200)

Merrin is normally associated with punching above his weight with girlfriend Sally Fitzgibbons but this year he’s proving he’s got a fair bit of weight to throw around. Merrin has lead from the front for the Panthers pack in every game this year and he’s proving why deserves to be in an origin jumper. Last week Merrin had 12 hit ups for 114 metres, three offloads, five tackle busts, one line break and 31 tackles in an energetic performance for the Panther.
