It’s been a long time between drinks, so to speak. Things at Marinerd HQ have been a bit hectic…and when I say hectic, I mean the start of the NFL season took a bit away from my MLB DFS focus. But never fear, I’m back to bring the season home as we trudge through the Dog Days of the US summer. MLB Fantasy Tips
The 280pt target comp is now up to a neat $25,000 and with the September callups getting a turn to pitch every now and again, big scores are there for the taking. Let’s see what we have for Saturday…
Drew Pomeranz, BOS ($12,200) is my favourite play today. I can hear the groans already, but hear me out. Opposing pitcher Chris Archer left his last start with forearm soreness and I think the only reason he’s going to get the start is because the Rays probably think they can still make a run at the Wild Card. There’s a good chance he’s not 100%. Also, Pomeranz has reverse splits and is actually better vs righties than lefties, so if the Rays take some of their lefties out like Dickerson and Duda, then they’re doing us a favour.
Collin McHugh, HOU ($12.400). Another well-priced pitcher with decent strikeout potential in a good position to get a win. The A’s are not a very good hitting team and McHugh is strengthening this month after missing most of the year with injury. He hasn’t gone past the 6th inning yet this year, but you’d think the Astros will want to see him stretch it out if possible.
Hitters & Stacks
The Indians will never lose another game. Well, maybe they will, but 15 in a row. Wow! Hard to go against that form, especially when they get Wade Miley comin in (don’t let his 2.60 August ERA fool you). Stack The Tribe with either of the two pitchers above.
The Astros are the other team I’ll be looking to stack tomorrow on the road in Oakland. I think Jharel Cotton is going to be a really good pitcher, but he still has some learning to do. He’s giving up a lot of homers and righties are pounding him. Springer, Altuve, Correa, Bregman are all in play.
Alcides Escobar, SS KC ($3,800) is my favourite value play this weekend. He might not be the play to get you to 280pts, but he’s hitting .276 in the second half and playing everyday. That’s pretty good for a guy under $4k.
Mike Napoli, 1B TEX ($5,300) has 2 homers and 3 doubles in just 17 at bats vs Masahiro Tanaka. The Rangers have been playing well (especially at home) so he’s my pick to go yard today.
JD Martinez, OF ARI ($6,700) is in a pretty good spot today and fairly priced for a guy who hung an 80-burger the other day. Padre starter Jordan Lyles was once a decent prospect, but is currently struggling to find his ways. He’s given up 11 homers in just over 50 innings, so another for JD is on the cards.
Good luck everyone!
