The hype was huge and we certainly weren’t let down when the AFL season kicked off last week. Some absolutely cracking matches filled with quality performances made for some exciting viewing for all fans. Round 1 was a huge success for DFS players on Moneyball with big numbers filling all our GPP contests. Let’s keep the momentum rolling as we look at some of the best value picks with North Melbourne hosting St Kilda at Docklands Stadium.
Tim Membrey ($6,600) SAINTS
While it was only one game, Membrey was one of the best performing forwards last week putting up 100 fantasy points. He kicked two goals and arguably should have had a couple more while being a constant threat in the forward line. With his price not crazy high, he looks like a good play again this week.
Ben Brown ($6,200) NORTH
After playing pretty much underwater last week against the Suns, Brown will want to bounce back after a poor showing. This guy will thrive in better conditions and will want to make a statement after going goal-less last week. It was a scrappy game all round where less than 100 points were kicked. We all know this guy can bag a handful of goals on his day and I am willing to take a punt on him here.
Jack Steven ($8,800) SAINTS
One of the bets performing players last week, Steven racked up 34 disposals to go with 2 goals in a dominant all-round performance. Don’t see any reason why he can’t continue that this week against a Kangaroos midfield who struggled in their first round match.
Jack Ziebell ($8,600) NORTH
Ziebell was one of the few who made an impact for the Kangaroos last week in what was terrible conditions for footy. 2 goals and 21 disposals was one of the best performers in the match. I can see him having a big game this week in perfect conditions with the sun shining in Melbourne on Friday afternoon.
Jarryn Geary ($5,900) SAINTS
Geary was one of Saints best in defence in the opening round with 27 disposals. He comes up against tougher opposition here but looked so solid last week. at this price he looks a good play and will hopefully score your lineup some good value.
Shane Savage ($6,800) SAINTS
He was a rock in defence all match against Brisbane while racking up 24 disposals and 92 fantasy points. If it isn’t obvious I am sticking with players who have shown good form to start the season and Savage looks like one of those.
Todd Goldstein ($8,300) NORTHS
He was the kangaroos top fantasy performer last week with 92 points and completely dominated the ruck contests. he had 35 hit outs to go with 14 disposals. He comes up against Billy Longer who, ironically was Saints lowest fantasy performer with just 32 points. Goldstein should have the measure of his opposite number here.
