NBA $7,000 Thursday Special
In all honesty, today’s seven-game slate should be easy pickings. The best plays of the day almost jump out at you. There are plenty of matchups to target and a lot of ins and outs to take advantage of. A lot of todays plays are as certain as fantasy plays get, so if you’re hoping to claim your share of $7,000 in prizes in today’s Thursday Special, here are a few guys you should target.
De’Aaron Fox $8,000
De’Aaron Fox has been brilliant in the role of pace setter and floor leader this season for the Kings. His tempo and energy are infectious, and the Kings play at one of the league’s fastest pace. That pace of play has led to big fantasy scores for Kings players, especially Fox. The matchup for Fox on Chris Paul may not seem easy, but the rockets in whole struggle with rim protection and transition defense, which are the two areas where Fox thrives the most. Fox’s speed and aggression will give the Rockets fits today and of you don’t play him in fantasy I’m quite certain he will do the same for you.
Kemba Walker $9,300
Is Kemba Walker back? I mean the early season Kemba who set the league on fire averaging 30ppg. Kemba has been very inconsistent this season, dealing with niggles. However, he has scored 62.2 and 60.5 fantasy points in his last two games. If he’s finally healthy and back in early season form you will want to play him now before his prize increases again.
Buddy Hield $6,900
I mentioned before how De’Aaron Fox has facilitated strong fantasy play from a lot of Kings players, and Buddy Hield is one of them. Hield has been an almost fringe al star this season, Averaging 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists on 48% from the field and a ridiculous 46% from three. In today’s matchup against Houston, I can see Buddy taking advantage of the penetration and transition looks to produce a very strong score. He had 35.4 in his last game against the Rockets, and I consider that a base-line for his score today.
Jamal Crawford $4,100
Jamal Crawford has provided an extremely steady hand for the Suns. He’s been handling more of the ball handling and play making responsibilities and has had 7 and 9 assists in 2 of his last 3 games. With Devin Booker out, Jamal will likely continue his duties and should provide a very nice return for his low $4,100 salary.
Davis Bertans $4,600
In his last two starts Davis Bertans has played more than 30 minutes and has averaged 33 fantasy points. There’s really not much more to it than that. With the Spurs injuries, they will need minutes from Bertans and he has shown he is capable of producing when given the opportunity.
Will Barton $5,800
Will Barton has been good without being great this season. Over the last 8 games Barton has averaged 25 points per game, but he does have the potential to far surpass those scores with the right matchup. It’s very likely that today is that matchup, as the Brooklyn Nets are one of the best matchups for wings in the league. Barton seems very likely to provide a solid return and the upside is also high. Essentially, he makes a great fantasy play across any format.
Marvin Bagley $6,900
Another player, another Sacramento King. Bagley has been in incredible form of late averaging 36 fantasy points per game over his last 6 contests. He also had 56.4 in his last game and is coming into a great matchup with the best of form. Houston is light on size and will struggle to match Bagley’s speed and athleticism. He should feast on boards and be on the receiving end on a ton of easy buckets, so he’s very likely to provide great value today.
Jakob Poeltl $3,500
I don’t feel extremely comfortable with this pick, but how uneasy can you feel about a $3,500 starter? Poeltl doesn’t have a track record of production, but someone has to play and score for the Spurs. With a whole host of outs today, you’d think they would like to give one of their young guys some burn.
