The footy season is well and truely underway and there are a variety of contests to get involved in on Moneyball. I will be commentating on some of my favourite plays on the two game slate as these tips are also useful in the applicable single game contests. Raiders vs Knights in what is expected to be a close game before the Eels play the Roosters. Eels have looked promising so far this season but playing the Roosters will be their biggest test so far this year.

Hooker

Jake Friend ($7,500) had a superb game against South Sydney in round 1 before being rubbed out of round 2 due to an injury. He is a valid option on this slate however the Roosters have shown they will not hesitate to ease their stars into the season and if the Roosters get a commanding lead in this game, Friend could get an early shower. Reed Mahoney ($4,800) has posted solid scores so far this season. He might not be as likely to rack up the attacking stats he has accrued so far this year against this Roosters outfit but at his price, he doesn’t need to do stacks to hit value. Danny Levi ($5,700) has not scored well so far this year however, with Connor Watson being a late exclusion from this game, Mann will be shifting to fullback and Levy might see more minutes making him an interesting option.

Forwards

The Panthers forwards scored well against Newcastle last week and for that reason, I’m keen on a few of the Raiders forwards this week. Josh Papalii ($8,500) is yet to register the fantasy points that he is capable of but the Raiders will need him to have a big game this Friday considering Tapine is out injured. John Bateman ($5,500) may also benefit from the exclusion of Tapine this week. Bateman will shift from lock to the second row so he might not get through as much work in defence this game but is more likely to be on the end of attacking set plays and might go in for a try. On the other side of the ball, David Klemmer ($8,100) has had an outstanding start to the year with his new club. Given he is the leader of this Newcastle forward pack, he is likely to constantly play big minutes and get through a lot of work. If you are looking to take risks elsewhere, Klemmer can be locked into your teams to secure some safe points. Boyd Cordner ($7,600) and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves ($6,000) are both coming off big performances last week and should be able to back up their efforts against this Eels forward pack.

Halves

Cooper Cronk will miss a second consecutive game to injury this week which means Luke Keary ($6,800) is a solid play yet again. Keary set up 4 tries last week in wet conditions while Cronk was sidelined and the Roosters will look to him again to run the attack. Keary’s halves partner Lachlan Lam ($4,000) is also worth considering this week. Lam played off the bench last week and only came on once the game was well and truely decided. It appears as though he will start in the halves this week and could easily justify his price tag if given more minutes.

Outside Backs

James Tedesco ($10,900) is yet to replicate his 2018 form that contributed to the Roosters Grand Final win and for that reason, he could be low-owned this week. The same can be said about Joseph Manu ($7,800) who has shown glimpses of excellence  in the opening two rounds this season but is yet to translate that into fantasy points. Matt Ikuvalu (3,700) will play his first game of the season for the Roosters and at such a cheap price, only needs to get a few attacking stats to be a solid value play. If you are looking for options in the backs from the Knights vs Raiders game, Joseph Leilua ($7,900) will be eager to have a big game against his former club as will Edrick Lee ($5,900) who has managed to score a try in each of the first 2 games this season.
