Today 3 of the top 4 teams take the field to complete magic round. The Roosters are playing on another level to most of the teams in the comp so far this season and today, the Raiders will get the opportunity to test themselves against the premiers. The Cowboys are coming off a win and will be eager to turn their season around with a win against South Sydney today.
There are 5 players priced above $10,000 today on Moneyball and of this group, Damien Cook ($10,200) is my favourite. This is because Cook is the only high priced option who does not have a close substitute. There are plenty of handy backs, forwards and halves today but options at hooker are a little more slim. If you are interested in moving away from Cook, Josh Hodgson ($6,700) is my second favourite option at hooker. Hodgson has not accrued the attacking stats he is capable of scoring this year, he is yet to score a try and has only 3 try assists to his name. Despite this, he is playing consistent, quality football and is good for 20-25 points. Hodgson will also need to make plenty of tackles against thisRoosters outfit today.
Jason Taumalolo ($10,000), Cameron Murray ($8,900) and Sam Burgess ($8,800) are the most expensive forwards today and are always worth considering. However, I figured I’d spend some time identifying some cheaper options instead of talking about why you should play these guns. Hudson Young ($3,500) is my play of the day. Young will be starting for the injured John Bateman and comes in at bottom dollar today. Young scored an impressive 36.7 fantasy points last week and on a day where there are so many expensive options, I think it will be essential to roster cheapies such as Young to allow you to get more of the top dollar players. Ryan Sutton ($5,800) could also benefit from the injury to Bateman. Sutton has been posting consistent scores of late but he may be asked to make more tackles and take more hit-ups now that Bateman is sidelined.
Cody Walker ($10,100) has been doing everything in his powers to earn an Origin jersey this year and, as a result, is the highest priced option in the halves today. Cody walker also finds himself in what I Believe to be the best matchup of the day playing the Cowboys. This play comes with a bit of risk, I have mentioned before that Walker relies on scoring tries to post big totals so if his halves partner takes away any of his attacking stats, he could be left with a low fantasy score and take up a huge chunk of your salary. Luke Keary ($6,900) is another player in contention for a blues jersey this year. Keary went off injured in the Roosters win over the storm and then missed a round before returning last week. He didn’t appear to be bothered by the injury and looked dangerous. It is also wroth mentioning that, like Walker, Keary relies heavily on attacking stats.
Matt Ikuvalu ($4,700) returns for the Roosters this week meaning we can get exposure to their high-powered attack at a cheap price. Ikuvalu has scored 30.7 and 47.3 points in the games in which he has scored a try this year so the upside is there. Kyle Turner ($4,500) has looked more comfortable in the centres in recent weeks. Turner has managed to score a try in his last 2 games and is a great value play today given his low salary. I also expect James Tedesco ($10,400) to be under-owned today due to his price being comparable with Latrell Mitchell’s. Tedesco didn’t produce a high score in the Roosters big win over the Tigers last week but on his day, he is unstoppable.
