There is a massive $8,000 of guaranteed prizes to be won in the opening game of round 11. The Eels have been dominant in the few games they have played at their new stadium this year and are favoured to beat the struggling Panthers team. I will be discussing some of my favourite plays for the opening game of the round.
In round 9 Brad Authur opted to start Reed Mahoney ($7,200) from the bench but thankfully, last week Mahoney was back in the starting side and played the full 80 minutes. If we exclude the game in which Mahoney started from the bench, his 5-game average is 36.8. Wayde Egan was not named for the Panthers this week so the only other option at hooker is Sione Katoa ($3,800). Katoa has posted low fantasy scores recently and even last week when he played over half the game, he only managed 11.3 fantasy points. My preference at hooker is Mahoney as he will spend much more time on the field than Katoa and has a much higher ceiling.
Frank Winterstein ($4,200) has only played 3 games this season, one of which was effected by injury. In the 2 games that Winterstien managed to play decent minutes, he posted scores of 15.7 and 27.8 fantasy points. the 15.7 points was against the Storm and the Panthers were well beat and hence, Winterstein didn’t get many opportunities to post points. At this price he is worth considering. James Tamou (8,000) is quite expensive today but the eels have leaked a fair few tries through the middle third of the field lately and Tamou has the ability to crash over for a try. Junior Paulo ($6,500) has averaged over 20 tackles and over 100 metres per game. He is playing big minutes for a front rower and getting through a lot of work. Manu Ma’u ($8,100) was exceptional last week and faces an easier opposition this week. Despite being strong on paper the Panthers have been weak in the middle of the field and this could see Ma’u run for a lot of metres today.
Jarome Luia ($3,500) gets his first opportunity in the starting team for 2019 tonight. Last year over the origin period Luia was sensational for the panthers while there regular halves were out for origin duties. Luia is a great cheaper option who has the ability to post a big score. Mitchell Moses ($7,900) is my favourite of the higher priced options. If the eels win, as expected, Moses will get plenty of opportunities to post attacking stats and kick goals.
The Eels have an array of dynamic backs and I believe they are all in play tonight. Clint Gutherson ($8,300), Blake Ferguson ($8,200) and Maika Sivo ($7,400) are all great options tonight. It is worth noting that Ferguson has been shifted from the wing into the centres this game which may be an attempt to get him more early ball. Waqa Blake ($6,400) has been quiet by his standards this year but is very capable of producing a big fantasy score and for that reason he might be a good contrarian play today. Brian To’o ($4,100) has retained a spot in the side this week and is a great value play at a low price.
