Well what a season of Big Bash it has been. BBL07 lived up to the hype with huge hitting, some unbelievable catches and awesome bowling efforts. As always crowd numbers were through the roof and the competition looks to only keep growing in years to come.

Anyway, it’s down to the serious stuff now as our top four teams look to battle out the semi-finals in search of the Big Bash League title. Semi-Final 1 offers up a juicy encounter between competition favourite’s, the Scorchers and the surprise packet of the year, the Hurricanes.

Hobart started the season on fire stringing a number of impressive wins together which kept them towards the top of the ladder. The last few weeks have been disappointing as they head into this finals series off the back of three losses. One of those losses was to the Scorchers so Hobart will need to lift to have any hope of taking the win here. The Scorchers on the other hand, as in previous seasons, have once again dominated this competition. They have really found a balance of firepower and composure with both bat and ball and always seem to find a way to win. They will have a huge crowd behind them as always and it looks like this is their match to lose.

With a $5000 guaranteed prize pool up for grabs on Moneyball, follow on as I preview the key players for both teams in what will be a cracking match of T20 cricket.

Batsmen

Shaun Marsh – $4,500

When the calibre of someone like Shaun Marsh is available for selection you’d be silly not to include him in your side. One of the best batsmen in the country and is coming off a career-defining Ashes series, he has performed quite well for the Scorchers in the past. The big stage won’t scare him and I think he will want to get the team on his back.

Ben McDermott  –  $5,800

Again, another player who has been solid this year without posting that huge score. McDermott looks like he is on the brink of putting up a big performance. With D’arcy Short expected to be out on International duty, McDermott looks like a solid pick. He can hit a long ball and has a BBL century to his name already. If he can take his time to get his innings going he will have every chance to go big.

Bowlers

Jofra Archer – $7,700

What a find this guy has been for the Hurricanes. He has taken 15 wickets this season while also making the odd impact with the bat. What’s most impressive is his bowling at the death. Archer has closed out numerous games this season for Hobart and while being a little pricey, is the X factor you need in your lineup.

Matthew Kelly – $4,300

Having only played the last 4 games for the Scorchers, Kelly has been a super consistent performer since his debut. he is averaging 30 fantasy points per game and will look to continue his solid form into the finals. At $4,300 he is a great value play who has plenty of upside.

All Rounder

Ashton Turner – $6,700

With plenty of strong all-rounders to pick from here this was a tough decision. The inclusion of Mitch Marsh makes it even tougher. I’m going against the grain a little here and picking pretty much another batsman. I don’t think Turner will bowl but the form he has been in with the bat means you can’t leave him out. Bit more of a value play than Marsh which could be a risk but hopefully opens up some more cash for another key selection.

Wicket Keeper

Cameron Bancroft – $5,400

With scores of 51, 43 and 30.5 fantasy points in 3 of his 4 matches, Bancroft looks like a good selection. He made 54 off 36 against Hobart 2 weeks ago and is coming off an impressive 49 against a strong Adelaide team.
