We have reached the month of August which means we get out the ladder predictor’s out and find out your “dream” scenario for your favourite team. Carlton’s finals were crushed the moment someone teased them about making it and Geelong are losing momentum. Round 20 proved to be a bit simple to tip and for the players on Moneyball it was the weekend of the ‘chalk’. Let’s recap on our winners this week.

Friday night started with the celebrations of the North Melbourne 150th Anniversary and they did their supporters proud by defeating Hawthorn. A $30,000 contest was provided and 1800 entries were entered in this single game contest. A tempting salary of just $7,800 was given to Shaun Higgins and for 50% of the field he saluted by provided the 2nd best score in 109 fantasy points for his owners. Top scoring for the slate was James Worpel with 126 fantasy points and certainly helped the owners of 24% of the field. It was a perceived coin flip for the ruck position but for owners of Todd Goldstein (only 20%) he rewarded owners with 103 points.

Now, I like writing up single bullet winners and this week ‘Gaskell1985’ provided just the one lineup and took out the 1st prize of $3,000! A combination of Worpel, Goldstein and McEvoy was in the winning lineup. Gaskell actually could not afford Higgins in this lineup but it was enough to win the slate. ‘lukemaugeri’ who came in 2nd was also a single bullet and collected $1,400 for his single entry. Well done to you both.

The $40,000 Saturday Slate was a tale of the three value plays – Doulton Langlands, William Snelling and Hayden McClean. All were priced at the minimum salary and all have had good starts to their AFL careers. Over 50% of the entries had Langlands (39FP) and McClean (88FP) but the pick of the cheapies was Snelling who had 93 fantasy points. Thus we had the cash to spend on some premium plays and at the top of the wish list was Toby Greene. Greene ended up being 51% owned and top the leaderboard for the day with 146 fantasy points. For ‘asanque’ a combination of all three value plays with Greene sprinkled in with Rory Laird (134FP at 4%), Jacob Hopper (122FP at 6%) and Shane Mumford (102FP at 5%) who the keys for the winning $4,000 lineup. Hot on his heels were highly ranked DFS players in ‘RWhelan09’, ‘lamindor’, ‘Broady4_’ who filled out the top 10. ‘Asanque’ is no stranger to the leaderboards this season of AFL DFS and cements himself as one of the better players on the site.

When a slate contains Gold Coast it is a trend that you attack players from the opposition against the Suns. That particular team was Collingwood and you guessed it, they were up against the Suns. On Sunday a big $30,000 contest was dominated by Daily Fantasy Rankings number 1 ranked player in ‘laminedor’ also known as ‘jayk123’. He finished with seven of the top 10 entries, including the top one, to finish with over $5,000 prize money. The key to his success was playing a ton of players from the Magpies vs Suns fixture, which had an abundance of high fantasy scores. The other key finishers in the slate were ‘cottmaa’ and ‘eagle hunter’ in equal second for $1,150 each, as well as ‘Leather Poisoning’, who finished in fourth spot for a $650 collect.

Highlights of Jayk’s winning lineup include Jack Lukosius for 99FP and Jacob Dawson for 100FP. Funny enough these players are from the Suns! Well done Jay, big fillup for you!

Round 21 is approaching and Moneyball will be back with more prize money up for grabs with $30,000 prize pool for Saturday. Good luck with your teams on the weekend!
