Jimmy Graham seems to have another big part coming up in his career after signing with the Chicago Bears. He agreed to a two-year deal worth $16 million with the Bears after his former team, the Green Bay Packers opted to release him.
Graham played in all 16 games for the Packers in the last four seasons. He started 10 of those matches last year and had 38 receptions for 447 yards and three touchdowns. He is now set to join a deep and tight-end room in Chicago. His addition likely means a big boost to the Bears’ offence.
He made a big claim yesterday after addressing the media regarding his move to Chicago. His move confused a lot of fans and caught plenty of criticism.
‘I’m still fast. I still have the ability to make big plays’, said Graham. He was disappointed with the team’s decision to drop him out of nowhere. He explained that it still stings up to this moment.
‘It was the first time I lost my job’, Graham said. ‘It’s lit a fire’.
His production was questioned in two seasons of struggle with the Packers. He had two campaigns where he only produced five touchdowns, 93 receptions and 1,083 yards combined. That has been the main doubt in his move.
‘I know what player I am and I know what I can do’, Graham said. ‘I think I was able to show a little bit of that in the playoffs with some of the opportunities I was given. And after being 10 years in, I’ve only missed six games. That’s coming off of, at times, all kinds of injuries’.
‘At times I’ve kind of been on ice the last two years so my knee right now is the best it’s felt in four or five years. This is the best that I’ve ran, this is the fastest I’ve been in the last four or five years. I’m going to get back to being me’, he added. ‘I’m going to get back to making big plays and scoring touchdowns because I think I’m somewhere in the top of scoring touchdowns and I want to continue that, I want to continue climbing that list and get to where I’m supposed to be’.
Some may say that his level of play has already waned, but no one can say that until Graham gives up. He has proven himself as he caught balls from the best players in the NFL. He might be the missing piece that the Bears need in order to salvage what they got.
‘Obviously that’s kind of one of the big stories this offseason is our quarterback room’, Graham said, ‘But I’m excited to work with both of them and to see where I can help both of them and where we can all get on the same page’.
